Shockwave is interesting for 2 reasons:
- Unlike the majority of other treatments we commonly use which are slow and offer temporary relief, shockwave therapy gives long term results through stimulating the body’s natural healing potential, and works quickly.
- Even though shockwave therapy is very established in Singapore for well over a decade, it is relatively unknown. Few patients have heard their doctors recommend it.
Employing high energy acoustic waves, shockwave induces new blood vessel growth and tissue regeneration.
Although recognized as one of the best treatment options available for pain relief and recovery, its use in Singapore has up till recently been limited.
One reason is that treatment with earlier generation shockwave machines were quite painful, usually requiring local anesthesia. Shockwave machines were also very costly medical devices, resulting in expensive treatments which many patients could not afford.
Fortunately, medical research in recent years has given us a new generation of shockwave machines which provide far more comfortable treatments, no longer requiring anesthetic injections.
They have also become much cheaper, dramatically bringing down treatment costs and making shockwave therapy more affordable to patients.
Conditions Treated with Shockwave include:
- Plantar fasciitis (foot pain)
- Achilles tendinopathy (heel pain)
- Hip pain
- Knee pain
- Lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow)
- Rotator cuff tendinitis (shoulder pain)
- Myofascial trigger points (body aches and muscle pain)
- Back pain
- Neck pain
Clinical studies have demonstrated extremely high success rates, even in cases which have failed to respond to conventional approaches.
What sets this treatment apart from traditional treatments is that it treats the musculoskeletal pathology instead of just offering symptomatic relief.
